“THE Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) cash assistance has been extended to households with a monthly income of between RM3,000 and RM4,000. They will receive RM450.
Prior to this assistance was given to those with a monthly income of below RM3,000 and single individuals aged 21 and above with income not exceeding RM2,000 a month.
“The assistance is given to alleviate the rising cost of living borne by the lower middle-income group,” said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The Prime Minister also announced that under the 2014 BR1M package, the amount of the cash assistance for the initial group of recipients had been increased from RM500 to RM650.
He said the amount for single individuals who qualified for the scheme had also been increased from RM250 to RM300.
“To complement the BR1M programme, the Government would contribute RM50 to the Group Takaful Rakyat 1Malaysia (i-BR1M) for all recipients.
“The initiative will provide protection of up to RM30,000 in the event of death or permanent disability,” he said.
“In short, all BR1M recipients, with a household monthly income of not more than RM3,000, will enjoy financial assistance of RM700,” the Prime Minister pointed out.
“Recipients of the RM450 will also enjoy the RM50 contribution to i-BR1M, bringing the total BR1M assistance they receive to RM500,” he said.
Najib said RM4.6bil had been allocated to implement the 2014 BR1M packages, which would benefit 7.9 million recipients.
BR1M was introduced in 2012 for households with a monthly income of below RM3,000. Last year, it was expanded to single individuals aged 21 and above.” (the star)
